Why a large backpack, you ask? I'm test-driving it for an upcoming trip to Vietnam to write for Lonely Planet.
LONELY PLANET.
Yes, this is the Really Cool Writing Gig I've been mentioning.
LONELY PLANET.
Okay, that's really the last time I'm going to put that in all caps.
The backpack seems to be a good fit. Now to figure out the other 20 million details before I go (in between finishing up work, of course) ...

lonely planet! that *is* awesome. during my brief stint at harvard i thought about trying my luck with Let's Go, but alas, never got around to it. Not that I have the gumption - nor the sense of direction, nor the alcohol tolerance - to trek all over a random foreign land and write up a proper guide :)
If it helps at all, I am using the Osprey Aether backpack, and it's really very good. It comes highly recommended by a lot of the outdoors/backpacking publications. You can read a review of the backpack here:

Oh yeah, and congrats on the Lonely Planet gig :)
YOU GO, GIRL! YES I'M SHOUTING! WHOOHOO! HOW COOL! How long are you gone?
So this is the really cool writing gig. I am impressed. I really am.
congratulations on getting the amazing gig, and have fun in vietnam!
note to self: work harder on writing...
