I am a Hobbit

I have been eating junk food for almost five days straight. This cannot be good.

On Friday, I was running a photo shoot at work, which meant that all manner of proper and improper meals were consumed throughout the day: breakfast (to minimise the likelihood of any embarrassing fainting spells), second breakfast (to minimise the likelihood of our photographer experiencing a fainting spell), lunch (which we had more than enough time for and thus ate too much of a real meal during), and all manner of sugary drinks in between. Even after the shoot, dinner was makeshift: an appetizer of Doritos and M&Ms, followed by a main course of deep-fried Indochinese snacks at Bar Opiume.

On Saturday, the stomach rested. It knew what it was in for with the LotR marathon coming up the next day.

And then there was Sunday.

Yesterday, there was chocolate cake from Jane's Cake Station, which my friend tried to convince me was better than Lana. I beg to differ. Lana is moister, a tad sweeter, and hence perfect. Jane's is really, really good, but it's no Lana. My favourite local choices of chocolate cake remain: (1) Lana, (2) Awfully Chocolate, (3) the new entrant, Jane's. (PS: Tiramisu tangent, but if you haven't tried Tiramisutra, you're missing out.)

Oh, and there was a Polar curry puff too. Evil. Fortunately, Terz and I managed to dodge the sharks' fin soup at dinner.

Today, thus far, there's been: breakfast (bread + banana), second breakfast (soya bean drink), third breakfast (Cadbury's chocolate bar) and Coke Light. And now my stomach's wailing for a real lunch.

To be a real Hobbit, I'd have to take up smoking pipeweed too --- but then my mother would kill me. I'll have to content myself with being half a halfling.

Hey I love Lana chocolate cakes too! They're definitely a yearly birthday must where I'm concerned.

Polar curry puffs are great too... yum yum... =) Oh bother now I miss Singapore again! =P

Are you as skinny as you used to be when I taught you? Dammit. Young people nowsadays and their indefatigable metabolisms...

I hate to have to inform you, but The Fell Bat is now a rippling mass of muscles (thanks to superb discipline and an effective regimen), and I am fat. Ugh.

I'll see about doing something to correct that when I return though. I swear it's the heat and sweating that keeps people in Singapore from ballooning from all that lardy hawker food... plus it's hard to exercise in the cold...

I always figured it's easier to exercise in the cold because you don't sweat as much. Here the heat can be off-putting enough that you don't feel like going out to run at all. That's why gyms are so popular!

hi there, is lana cakes that good? someone just told me about it and i did a google search and man, everyone's like raving about it. how come i've never heard of it till now? anyways, i'm looking for a birthday cake for my upcoming 21st birthday party and wanted to know if the famed lana cake is seriously a must-try! how much is it anyway? they dont' have a website do they?

I've been a Lana cake devotee since I was a child. The chocolate cake is moist and sweet, but not too sweet or too heavy. Unlike some other chocolate cakes, it won't make you jelat, unless you eat like half the cake by yourself.

Lana Cake doesn't have a website. It's a family business at 36 Greenwood Avenue, 6466-8940. They occasionally have a few leftover cakes that you can pick up on a walk-in basis, but it's best to call several days or up to a week in advance to order your cake. If you call and there's no answer, it probably means they're closed :) so try again the next day. Have fun!

apparently they've been around for the longest time? that's why I found it weird that I've never ever heard of them. i must try the cakes then! i heard it's even better than awfully chocolate ones?

anyways, thanks for the info on the place! much appreciated! :)

I think Lana is superior to Awfully Chocolate, but different people have different criteria when it comes to as delicate a subject as chocolate cake. Hope you like it!
