(Until two days ago, I did not know what PM10 or PM2.5 referred to. Until yesterday, I never had to wear an N95 mask when going about ordinary errands outside the home.)
Anyway, I'm dumping a bunch of useful links here, because the government websites are quite a morass to wade through, and I want to keep everything in a place where I can find them:
- "Doctors urge precautions against exposure to haze," TODAY, 22 June 2013. In short: pay attention to PM2.5 readings, not only the PSI. The PM2.5 readings have been the wildly unhealthy range these few days, despite the PSI's fluctuations ("wildly unhealthy" being my own layperson's term).
- Real-time Air Quality Index for Singapore, based on information from Singapore's National Environment Agency (via my friend Lucy on Facebook).
- For those of us with non-human critters whom we care for: "How to protect your pets from haze", Yahoo News, 22 June 2013 (via my friend Cheryl on Facebook).
- Six steps to wearing the N95 mask, according to Singapore's Health Promotion Board (the website tends to load slowly for me). Raffles Hospital's put up a video demonstration.
- The somewhat useful, but I really wish it were more meaty, E101 Updates on the Haze website, by the Singapore government's Emergency 101 initiative (which I hadn't come across before the current situation).
- My awesome friend Lucian was a champ and distributed N95 masks to the residents of some HDB rental flats near where he lives.
- SG Haze Rescue is busy crowdsourcing help.
