This just in ---

New DVD player! Finally we can watch DVDs coded for all regions, not just the region 1 and 3 ones. And the remote control that comes with it is larger than the old one, so there's less chance of it vanishing down the side of the couch.

New dengue fever patient! Alas, a friend's down with it and trying to ride out the worst of its debilitating effects. They're taking good care of her at the hospital, but when a person's too blah to flip through Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Her World or even *gak* Seventeen, she's pretty darned sick. Maybe she should start with something really vacant like 8 Days...

New favourite cze char place! (Cze char places serve Chinese dishes, like in restaurants, only they're usually found in coffeeshops and even more basic than a no-frills restaurant: i.e. no airconditioning, no tablecloths or receipts, and definitely no "please wait to be seated" service.) We've known about Le Wan Tian forever, but it was only tonight that I discovered that they serve claypot fish head --- the non-curry, non-assam, merely vegetables-and-tofu-in-gravy kind --- otherwise known as "the fish head dish that I've been trying to hunt down since I moved back here almost eight years ago". The fish was tender, smooth and tasty; the vegetable and tofu servings generous and simmered to perfection. Lovely.

Tomorrow, there will be work. But tonight there is a sated stomach and a quietly feeding iPod. Life is good.

Guess the DVD people gave up trying to screw consumers. Or they're too busy chasing down those downloading online.

Cowboy Caleb --- That means we live in the same kampong! Er, I promise not to stalk you...

Agagooga --- I heard something about New Zealand insisting that all DVD players have to be multi-region, the rationale being that the consumer who has purchased the DVD has a right to watch it, regardless of region.

No one cares about the NZ-ers. You don't see them managing to overturn DMCA.

Lisheng here.... I have discovered your blog! Mwahahahahaha!! *evil establishment laughter (tm)* you can run but you cannot hide!!!

Err okay. No serious, was randomly surfing around trying to distract myself from, erm, the Enlightenment when I thought about blogs and people and 'Ms Bala'. I promise never to call you that again (it's really hard to kick the habit though... Yu Mei just doesn't have the same ring to it). But lo and behold, here we are. More later - and apologies for never making good on my promises to meet up in S'pore!! Blame it on dissertation work and various PSC things over last summer... but after graduation i have nothing planned except learning driving. It *will* happen then! (tying strings all over body parts)

have you downloaded VLC for your Mac?

www.videolan.org

it plays most of your video formats, and also lets you get by the region thingy from the apple DVD player. you just have navigate to the VIDEO_TS folder, select everything and open with VLC.

Hi Tym. I thought I'd answer your question about the cafe here. :) Well, it looks like the resturant is finally gonna happen sometime this year. Will keep ya posted if you're really keen.

Agagooga --- No one cares about NZers? Maybe that's why it's such a lovely country :)

TaLieSin --- Gee, thanks, I spend all this time trying to keep my name off this blog, and you go and use it (twice!) in your very first comment. How will you atone for this?

More importantly, you're graduating already?! Cannot be, don't you have another year of postgrad overachieverdom waiting for you somewhere?

Adri --- Thanks for the tip! Will look into it. My husband's been looking for something to get around the Mac region restrictions for the longest time, so he'll definitely appreciate this. You are a goddess :)

Spunk --- Yes, keep me posted! Love the food at Blood Cafe. I never went into it for the longest time, thinking what could a clothing place possibly know about good food? And then one day my friend dragged me in and I was converted.

Whoops... *hides face in embarrassment* sorry sorry sorry! Gomen nasai! *Hits forehead* this is what happens when you don't blog... sheesh... newbies...

I would have deleted or removed the comment to atone. But since I don't have a Blogger account it apparently can't be done (*mutters something about blog servers*) - you could remove it, though? Go ahead... but if you can't... aiyah, I shall have to go through life stricken with guilty remorse a la Dimmesdale. Perhaps do some standing on the scaffold - in the day.

Graduating from first degree only - yes, another year awaits, probably at the same place. Not sure about OA-dom, given the current state of my dissertation. But i guess it'll all turn out well in the end...

Whoops!!! *hides face in embarrassment* Gomen nasai! Sorry sorry sorry! *hits self on forehead* This is what happens when you're a blogging newbie (or non-blogger, rather). Uhm... I would remove the comment. But can't cos don't have Blogger account *mutter mutter* - can you do it though? Do go ahead if so. If not... uhm... *seatdrop* treat you to lunch in Sg?

About graduation - it's for BA only. There is one more year of freedom before The Return to the Cave (tm). Not sure about OA-dom though, given the current state of my dissertation! But I guess it'll all turn out fine in the end...

Ooh now administrator removed posts don't show up as "This post has been removed by a blog administrator". So 1984-ish!

Oh no! You're giving me the Scarlet Letter! :P

Sorry about the double apology - the internet evidently hates me. I sent the first one, got an error message, drafted a second one and sent it - and voila, both appear. Stupid modern technology *mutter mutter*

Didn't you learn anything from my classes? The Letter will haunt you forever :)
