It's out!

Remember that project I was slaving over at the end of last year?

It's finally out! Anything you need to know about the national school system in Singapore, just ask the MOE information booklet. The web version (primary education, secondary education, pre-university education) isn't too attractive (no fault of the people doing it, but it looks like someone somewhere decided it would be a good idea to mash the design on top of the existing corporate template, with potentially blinding results). The booklet itself was my baby (PDF here), sans cover and index. For the actual thing, ask any schoolgoing kid or teacher --- they all got copies about two weeks ago.

I believe I can still recite parts of it from memory, thanks to all the nights spent copyediting and proofreading.

Edited to add: While I did work on all copy of the booklet (excluding the introduction), I should clarify that I didn't come up with the design and layout. I gave the go-ahead for the creative approach, but that's about all I can take credit for in that area.

great... looks exactly like the sort of thing that could be left in the toilet, giving months and months of reading eye-glazing reading material.

no, seriously, good work.

btw, in terms of proofreading, I believe you have one typo and one grammatical mistake in your "about me" section.

Thank you, thank you all.

Agagooga --- My current rule-of-thumb (though not entirely accurate) definition is that KI is S paper GP.

Nardac --- I've reread "about me" a bunch of times and can't see straight anymore. What did I screw up?

Chinese character that I don't know how to reproduce --- Never need an excuse for drinks. Book fail also I will drink :) Do I know you?

auntie!! you are clever!!! clap-clap-clap. no, i am not dancing to a clapping song. i am totally applauding you.

one question: what is a chinese-language electronic handheld device (page 21)? the one that will be used in school examinations? and can mine be in the shape of tony leung? (woe betide the child who gets the michelle yeoh chinese-language device, which speaks chinese like me! hngh!)

erh...

i was told by my cousins that some of his classmates threw it out after getting it.

Ah, the same classmates who'll go "What the fuck? What's this new thing in education all about?" one day.

Stellou --- The Chinese language electronic device is supposed to be some kind of electronic dictionary, so that kids won't have to memorise as much vocabulary and cheng yu as we used to. However, I highly doubt that it will be 'customised' so that the voice (if there is one) matches the face :)

Mystiq --- I fully expect that only five people (myself included) in the whole of Singapore will actually read and/or keep the book.

Terz --- But of course.

eeyur! chinese-language devices!! not fair!! man, did i need one back in primary three or four or whatever it was (sec. three, sec. four, :-p ), during the oral exam, when my test was to describe my watch, and i couldn't remember how to say "pink" (of course now it is forever and ever etched—um, in pink—in my brain), and i was like, "it's not red...it's not white..." THE HORROR.
